I'm not dead or gone, I've been here, just reading and commenting on fests and letting life do its thing. How are you all doing? I've been communicating with some of you, but how about the rest? I hope you're all well, and happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrated it.

HOLY GRAPES (because if ever there was a time to say holy grapes, it'd be now) I'm overwhelmed by the love meme. It made me cry, and it seems I'm not the only one. Goodness, it's been a long time since I felt so genuinely appreciated. You're all so kind and affectionate, and reading all the lovely comments you left me really warmed my heart and made me tear up. It was precisely what I needed. <33 Fandom is great anddddd shit, it meant so much to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Just. Thank you. ♥

Reading and leaving comments for others was the most amazing thing. Gosh, what a lovely idea – this love meme thing. Definitely check it out if you haven't. But it's been a while, so I think you're all aware already. Wasn't it the best?

Life is good. I have a cold and I've missed out on some physical therapy because of it. Booo. I also missed work this week, but although I love my job I kind of needed the break, so it's fine. I think my maybe-cold finally broke out because of stress, actually. But now I'm doing much better.

A wise and magnificent Dutch wandmaker, living a secretive life in an undisclosed location in the Netherlands, felt the stars call upon him. He deemed me worthy and rushed to create one to match my magical signature. It arrived by owl all the way from there, just for me, with the most wonderful scroll explaining that it was fashioned out of willow.

Or, in other words, my buddy Eddy carved me a wand as a hobby. He made a few a couple of years ago but neither of us thought about it then. Now, though, he suddenly decided to make me one when his carving came up in conversation. Eeee! It's my first wand ever, and it's GORGEOUS. Seriously, he's done the most beautiful details on it, and I was in awe when it arrived. He wrote, in calligraphy (with a fecking wax seal and everything) that it was made from a willow branch, and that it was loosely based on Hermione's wand.

SUITS ME FINE, mister. Because, aaah, it has the most exquisite pattern with vines and golden details. I love gold and leaves!

My photos aren't perfect because they're taken with my phone in somewhat poor lighting. But these turned out best. LOOK!

ETA: Ooh, Eddy has left a comment that you can see here, telling us about his process and showing us pictures. He doesn't use his account anymore, but I noticed his last post is from 2012, talking about making his first couple of wands. Haha, wow.

Oh my GOODNESS! That wand is beautiful. Honestly, it is so stunning <3333 Congratulations on being the owner of such a fantastic thing!!

So glad you enjoyed the love from the love meme, honestly it totally made me cry too. Writing on it for other people felt so lovely, and receiving messages back was just incredible. You absolutely deserve all the love and praise!

Oh no!! I am so sorry that you have been sick. I completely relate. I've actually been sick over the past few days as well. Hope you'll be fully feeling better soon. I know you're a tea-lover already, but be sure to drink EXTRA tea and also get some rest. Maybe look up some figure skating to watch :D

(As a totally unrelated sidenote, I am in the process of replying to both of your messages, so expect some replies relatively soon)

Eeee, thank you!! Isn't it completely amazing? I mean, he hasn't even just painted the veins of the leaves, he's carved them and painted in the gap. You can see it in the last picture. It's effing insane. How did he do such precise work? I must ask him about his process some more. He's done a fantastic job, and then varnish on top of that. It's just-- wow.

Ooooh, yesss, yes. *nods* I've been drinking plenty, both green and black and white. With extra honey in it, for my throat. I usually don't like it too sweet, but with my sense of taste being slightly off it's been fine. The hot drink is really soothing, and today I felt good enough to run some errands.

I'm going to bed now but I look forward to reading your message(s) at some point tomorrow. :D :D :D

Gahhhhh <3 I am just going to stare at the wand for a while longer! It's totally distracting. Wow. Those carved gold accents look like actual magic sparking through the wood. It's genius. I've got actual hearts in my eyes.

*pats you on the head* Good, very good. Glad you're taking care of yourself and drinking ALL the tea.

Goodnight, my dear! Chat with you tomorrow :D

What a gorgeously crafted wand! I love the vine details + the color!!

I hope your cold goes away soon, and that you are having a good weekend! <33

Yesss, I love the color too. I don't know if the varnish deepened it, or if he's done something else on top of that, or if it's naturally like that... but I love it. And oh my god, the little golden veins on the leaves blow my mind the most. They're not just painted, they're carved first. It looks like a little needle scratch with paint in. How he managed that is beyond me. That's some precise handiwork, man. :D AAAH. I'm so lucky.

Thank youu~

I hope you're well, too. <3

That is amazing!! Your friend is so thoughtful!! :D I'm good, thank you darling! We shot our last wedding of the season today so now I have even more time to focus on HP and YOI @ u @

Ooh, that's nice to hear. How much effort is that? Do you tend to get swept away by the feeling of wedding happiness or have you done it so often that your focus lies on you job?

Date: 2016-11-27 10:55 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
Oh we for sure get swept up in stuff, we're in the in-it-cause-we-love-it-with-our-whole-hearts camp. There's some people in the industry who are just in it for the money. There's technical parts of the job to focus on, and we do a lot of the coordination of people, bit like herding cats, but overall we just meet really cool people and become part of the inner circle for the day, so that's nice.

We still have photo editing, but it's nice to get a little break from shooting every weekend, it's rough on our bodies.

Gods, that sounds like the best. That's more or less what I pictured you doing, and how it'd go, and I'm happy I wasn't far off. How fun that people welcome you in and you get to be a part of their big day. And ooh, I bet you see a lot of pretty people, clothes and setups... as well as some odd ones, I'm sure.

Absolutely, hahaha, but you know what's pretty great about it? It gives Roy and I a pretty strong sense of what we want for our wedding!

Ohh, I can imagine, LOL. When's that again? :D

Also omg please tell me what the heck is going on in your display picture/icon? It's been driving me nuts, ahahah.

It's from one of DanRad's publicity shoots, he's got crazy hair and a cup of tea. IDK what's really going on, but it's fun lol.

LOOL. So that's it? I aalmost added "d'you know if there's a story to it, or is it just another wacky photo shoot?" in my comment. But I was so tired I decided against it because all I could think was, "Is photo shoot one or two words? So many Os in that word......." and then I got stuck there. No joke, man. It was like 3am and my brain wasn't working.

Gosh, I love nonsensical photos. Kudos to whoever put that together and/or took it.

Bahahaha!!! There could be more to the story, but sadly all I know about it is that it's from a goofy shoot! Which, I love his goofy shoots. I mean, his sexy bachelor ones are great (mmm the robe one) but I adore his silly side.

Oh, I'm so glad you said that because then I'm not alone. That's precisely what I told him, that he could definitely make a bunch and sell online, they're that wonderful. He said he sold off the ones he'd made previously over the years, so clearly there's an interest.

It's beautifully handcrafted and he just made it and gave it to me, free of charge. :D I'm crazy happy!

The love meme was such a treat. I'm still in awe about it.

Your wand is beautiful and the gold and the vines are stunning. Didn't know willow was so dark. Or did your friend use some varnish? It's great! :D

Since Friday I've been having a head cold and have to stay in bed for a few days. My colleagues won't be happy, but if I'd spread it that would be even worse, wouldn't it? Get better soon!

Date: 2016-11-27 01:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
Ohh, me too. It was a very nice boost for all of us, I think.

Thank you! Gosh, yes, it's beautiful handiwork right there. He did use varnish, so that must've had some effect although I don't know how much.

Aw, you as well? Seems a lot of colds are going around the world at the moment. I could've possibly worked Friday, but I thought along the same lines as yourself. Why go in and cough on people? Don't think they'd appreciate it. Definitely wiser to get better first. They can manage at work without you while you recover.

OMGGGGG YOUR WANNNDDDD IS AMAZZZINGGGGG!!!!!! Eddy is brilliant, and this is so intricate and well made, ugh, you lucky duck!!!! I am wild with envy and joy!

Oh gosh, sorry to hear you have been stressed, boo :( But also it's nice you had a break and could listen to your body and recuperate <3 And ahhhh the love meme - man, you deserve to be appreciated, you are a total joy and we are lucky to have you! :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

ISN'T IT THE MOST WONDERFUL THING?! I'm so lucky. I keep playing with it like the dork I am, stuffing it up my sleeve and sliding it out into my hand, and waving it around. Or I simply sit and roll it between my fingers and stare in awe at it. I am SUCH a lucky duck!! Eddy is indeed brilliant. DO YOU HEAR THAT, EDDY? Fandom appreciates your wandmaking.

akfghklgfkh I tried to figure out if I knew who wrote what on the meme and I got to one comment and I was like "this could be her!!" and then I read another and was like "this is also her!!" so I failed. But either I way I was fucking blown away :D :D :D :DD :D :DDD and totally teared up so much I got embarrassed and hid in the bathroom for a minute. <33 And somehow, despite that reaction, it felt EVEN BETTER to leave comments.

A reply from the master wandmaker himself ^___^

Hi Mac!
I'm so glad you love the wand. It came out a bit long, I believe it's 42 cm when I normally make them 36 cm but sometimes the wood dictates what the wand will look like, as it did in this case.
The carvings I do with a Dremel tool and it typically takes me 2 days to do. The deep dark colour is due to the wood-stain I use. Willow wood is normally almost white in colour but I first carve then sand down and then apply wood-stain. This one has about 6 layers I think. The gold detail is done with gold paint and a very fine pencil. I've made two more since I made yours and for the first time I also made a box with it, which was more difficult to make than the wand itself haha. I'll post a picture of it here.

Okay well, I'm glad you're happy with it Mac.
I hope you're well and I wish you many good spell castings with this wand.

Your friend, Eddy Bergman (aka EdEditz on YouTube)

Ooooh, hi! Thank you again for the wand, my dear, it's THE BEST. Have you read all the other lovely comments? Everyone loves it.

Wow, the box is amazing, it looks so professional. I said you could sell them before, and oh, now you could definitely do that.

Aw, yes, of course. The community came together to cheer each other up, and it was the loveliest idea. The comments I received were so honest and sweet. You can find the information and a list here. (
From: [identity profile]
Yes, I found the link and read the comments. They were so sweet, it was awesome to read. As were the comments on the wand. I read them all and it was really cool to see. I guess there's nothing like the real thing. If you order a wand from internet you either get a resin copy of the ones used in Harry Potter or you get one made on a lathe (wood turning device). Nothing like a hand made, hand carved wand.
I know I could sell them and in fact I have sold a few over the years but I make them a bit expensive because it's just so much work and I want some return for that. That's normal isn't it? I've given away a few too because the cause was too good to ask for money. Anyway, for anyone reading this, the one in the box is for sale for €75,- incl. shipping ^___^ And that includes the box too.
I hope you get lots of joy from your wand Mac. I couldn't think of a more deserving person to make it for as a sort of seal on our friendship ^__^

Eeee, yes wow, I am so lucky. I remembered his talent from years ago but I'd forgotten just how creative he could be. Then when I opened the package when it arrived, I was floored. I mean *whistles* look at it. Gorgeous details, carved with such care, and the wood is prepared and treated too. So much effort for little me!!
